Your transactions page is where you take control of every dollar moving through your business.
Whether you're reviewing outflows, categorizing inflows, or cleaning up data for month-end reporting, having accurate transaction data is what makes your forecasts reliable and your financial reports useful. Without clean transactions, it’s hard to get a full picture of where your business is at and where it’s headed.

Understanding Your Transaction View

When you open the transactions page, you'll see a complete list of all business transactions from your connected accounts. If you've linked your bank data, you'll notice your current balance displayed at the top—giving you instant visibility into your financial status. This balance reflects your depository accounts only. Credit accounts will appear in your transaction list but won't impact the displayed balance.
Note: Your balance is only visible when banking data has been connected. If you've only connected your accounting software, the balance won't be shown.

Switching, Searching and Filtering Transactions

In the top right corner, you can switch between different accounts to view their respective transactions. Compass displays both your depository and credit accounts, making it easy to review activity across your entire financial ecosystem without jumping between multiple banking interfaces.
The Transactions page also includes search and filtering capabilities to help you locate specific transactions quickly:
Search: Type in an account name, transaction description, or category to find what you're looking for.
Filter by Transaction Type: Filter to view only inflows (money coming in) or outflows (money going out) to get a clear picture of your cash movement.
Filter by Category: View and filter according to your categories. Uncategorized transactions are also available.
Clicking on “filter” will also give you a few options of viewing your transactions. You can display all transactions for a specific account, payment method and tag, while also choosing between a payment range and a start-end date. Multiple filters can be used to narrow your search down even further.

Uploading Transactions

Not all financial data lives in connected accounts. If you have transactions from cash payments, petty cash, or accounts you prefer not to connect directly, you can upload them manually to ensure your financial picture in Compass remains complete. This can be done by entering the transaction information directly (type, payment method, amount, etc.) or by importing a document. For detailed instructions, check out our guide on uploading transactions.

Editing Individual Transactions

Sometimes transactions need corrections. We try to make these changes as simple as possible for you. For any individual transaction, you can:
Change the Account – Reassign the transaction if it was attributed to the wrong account
Update the Category – Ensures that every transaction corresponds to the correct category
Modify the Payment Method – Switch between bank, card, or cash to maintain complete transaction details
Exclude from Analytics – Not all transactions are equal, some are more important, while some are less relevant. These can be individually excluded so they don’t impact your analytics. A common example as to why you might exclude from analytics is when switching between accounts.
💡 Pro tip: If you have frequent transactions, we recommend setting some time aside each week to review and clean up your transactions. This small habit ensures everything is fully accurate, giving you confidence in the insights Compass provides.

Bulk Editing Transactions

When you need to update multiple transactions at once, bulk editing becomes essential. Simply select the transactions you want to modify, then choose from three actions:
Move to Account – Reassign multiple transactions to the correct account in one click
Move to Category – Recategorize a group of similar transactions in seconds
Change Payment Method – Update how multiple transactions were paid simultaneously
This feature is particularly powerful when you're cleaning up data after connecting a new account, fixing systematic issues, or preparing reports.
When your transaction data is clean and properly categorized, Compass's AI can provide more precise recommendations and better, more accurate projections. It's what transforms your raw financial data into trusted financial intelligence.
